The sights in Plauen

Take time to visit the “capital” of the Vogtland region. Plauen may not be right next door to other major cities, but it has the unmistakable flair of a city that is both historic and very modern. Come and see for yourself. Stroll through romantic backstreets or wile the time away at unique open squares. Regardless of whether you are interested in hiking, cycling, art, night life or you are simply a tourist wanting to do some shopping, there is something to satisfy every taste. The Vogtland Theatre with its spectacular performances of musicals like Jesus Christ Superstar, the Titanic, the Buddy Holly Story and its successful annual open air opera spectacles with works such as Aida, Nabucco and Carmen is not only famous, but also unequivocal. Plauen’s history is inseparably linked with the development of Plauen lace. You will be amazed at the intricate lace embroidery work in the only lace museum in Germany. And if you have a sense of humour, don’t miss the exhibition showing works of the artist Erich Ohser, also known as “e.o. plauen”.
